School Year 2010-11
PreK-3 Update
June 21, 2011 Promotion Ceremony
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. “
Mother Teresa
Overall, I was pleased, the parents were pleased and our children are well equipped for Pre K 4. It was a pleasure to work with each and every one of my students this year in Pre K 3. Each student always had something interesting to share, had a unique perspective or came up with a creative idea. The students became a cohesive group that was kind and thoughtful. They are ready to become emergent readers and writers.
I wish them well.

PreK-4 Update
In the last few months the PreK-4 children have engaged in activities which helped them learn about the seasons, money, and living and non-living things. The children come in and get right to work in the morning. They start by writing their first and last names on all their work that they hand in. They are also learning how to write numbers and show number amounts. We are also incorporating learning letter sounds with letters so that the children can start to sound out small words that we put up on our word wall.
The class chose to study America for Cultural Week. They learned about the President and where he lives, the national bird, and other interesting facts. For International Day we joined PreK-3 in singing Yankee Doodle and Grand Old Flag as well as starting the event by saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The children did a wonderful job!
We are looking forward to March when we have a visit planned from the Scrubby Bear and the Tooth Fairy. They will come to discuss keeping ourselves and our teeth clean. We will also be doing lessons in class on health and hygiene in preparation for our special visitors.
Kindergarten Update
Mrs. Possidento’s Kindergarten students are all ready for First Grade! The proof is in their Writer’s Workshop Folders. In each students folder there are many writing samples of stories they have written since October. Progress can also be seen in their daily writing journals in which I choose a topic and students made a list and spelled at least 10 words that pertained to that topic. Everyone was spelling by the last two months of School!
In April, Kindergarten hosted a Beautiful First Friday Mass. Every child read something important about New Life from the Altar. With all the compliments we received from our Mass, we were able to fill up the rest of our Compliment Jar, and were rewarded with a classroom pet, Rainbow the Beta Fish.
In May, we had an in-classroom field trip from the Maritime Aquarium. We were able to see all the Sea animals that we had been studying about in class!!!
June was a very exciting Month for us as we learned all about the Life Cycle of a Butterfly. We enjoyed watching the whole process live right in our classroom. All ten of our caterpillars turned into beautiful butterflies. Setting them free outside was also exciting, as we learned that they would fly away and lay new eggs.
We had a very successful year in 2011. I wish all my Students the best as they enter Mrs. Keeney’s First grade class. She is sure to be very impressed!! I look forward to teaching another year of Kindergarten with my incoming class.
